Peter Taylor was part of the team of consultants helping to design and develop the MASEPOLREX 2025 exercise hosted by Kenya. This major event enabled both the national response system and regional/international support to be tested.
Over 300 personnel were involved from a multitude of governmental and private sector organizations. The photo shows the use of rice husks as an oil simulant for offshore deployments.

Full scale oil spill simulation exercise held in Mombasa, Kenya
We authored a review of published information concerning the efficiency of mechanical recovery of at-sea operations.
The document summarised existing approaches to addressing mechanical recovery efficiency, looking at both test tank condition data and historical real-world outcomes.

Mechanical recovery efficiency for oil spills at-sea review
Peter supported a regional workshop organized under the UK's Ocean Country Partnership Programme. This was an opportunity to continue og-going development of regional cooperation in the Western Indian Ocean.

All countries from the region attended, as well as the Nairobi Convention and Indian Ocean Commission Secretariats.

We were the drafting authors of a series of fact sheets on spill response to new or alternative fuels and energy products.

Peter Taylor represented OSPRI at a meeting held under the Aktau Protocol, which is the inter-governmental agreement for cooperation in cases of oil pollution incidents in the Caspian Sea region.
At this meeting, held at the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, agreement was reached on the final text of the regional contingency plan. This will be considered for approval at the next regional COP.

Progress with the cooperation in the Caspian Sea region
Peter Taylor continues to support the development of regional cooperation in Eastern Africa, working through the Nairobi Convention and the Indian Ocean Commission.

He has also been supporting a review and rewrite of the Seychelles national oil spill contingency plan, as part of efforts to ensure national readiness.

Supporting efforts in the Eastern Africa and Western Indian Ocean region
Peter Taylor reviewed the draft IMO publication concerning preparedness and response to HNS incidents, on behalf of Ipieca. He was tasked with providing Ipieca with an assessment whether they should consider their own publication in the same field. The report concluded that the IMO publication provides comprehensive guidance and no additional document will be needed.

Peter Taylor supported a 3-day oil spill training course in Mauritius as a consultant to the IMO. A news item about this event can be found on the IMO website here

OPRC Level 3 training course held in Mauritius
Peter Taylor attended the Interspill Conference and Exhibition. He was lead instructor for the Net Environmental Benefit Analysis (NEBA) Short Course held on the first day. This was the most popular of these courses, with over 30 attendees.
The Conference provided an excellent opportunity to meet old friends and colleagues and keep abreast of latest developments concerning oil spill preparedness and response.
